“Count your many blessings name them one by one
and it will surprise you what the lord has done.
Count your many blessings every doubt will fly
and you will keep singing as the days go by.”
The song lyric resonates with David’s words in Psalms. Many, O LORD my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare. (Psalm 40:5)
God has done innumerable wonders in our lives. We need to take time, ponder, reflect and fill with awe, give thanks for the specific blessings that he has purchased for each one of us at the cross of Calvary. What is blessing means to us. We should understand the God’s idea of blessing. It is more about ‘knowing Him’ than health and wealth blessings. He makes us to learn, to wait, to grow in faith before we receive the blessing. It is a great training and unforgettable experience.
The blessings of free air, water, food and light are ignored and sometimes taken for granted. We fail to see God’s care and provision in these free gifts. The seven I am statements of Jesus mentioned in John’s Gospel, tells us as who Jesus is. Do we need anything more than these in this life.
I am the Bread of Life (6:35, 48)
I am the light of the world (8:12, 9:5)
I am the door of the sheep (10:7, 9)
I am the good shepherd (10:11)
I am the resurrection and Life (11:25)
I am the way, the truth and the life (14:6)
I am the true Vine (15: 1, 5)
